Dog Days of Summer . . .
by Stephanie Veiga SPIN Happy Helper
I feel like June’s edition of the SPIN Newsletter is a PRELUDE, but a prelude to what? I’m not telling! I looked up the definition of prelude because, well for 1. I’m not an actual writer in real life, so words escape me, and 2. Not being an actual writer in real life I wanted to make sure I was using my words correctly and for good, not for evil.
So here it goes, the definition of PRELUDE according to the inter-webs is
prel·ude /ˈprelˌ(y)o͞od,ˈprāˌl(y)o͞od/
noun
1. an action or event serving as an introduction to something more important.
2. an introductory piece of music, most commonly an orchestral opening to an act of an opera, the first movement of a suite, or a piece preceding a fugue. (<-- I literally had no idea what “fugue” was so I had to look it up, and I always fondly remember the Looney Tunes when I see or hear the word opera)
So, what CAN I tell you about what comes after the Prelude? Well, all I’m gonna say is keep your eyes on your email and on this SPIN Planners website for some special mid-July announcements. If you don't want to miss out on the announcement, then tell me at [email protected] to be included on the "in the know" list.
For now, I’m going to leave you with a cliff hanger like how the oldie-time television show 'The Brady Bunch' did in their
two- part Hawaiian vacation episode, and I promise there are no bad-luck tiki idol necklaces involved. However speaking of tiki, happy SUMMER all and WELCOME to the DOG (and cats, rooster, baby, and even a pig) DAYS OF SUMMER!

Speaking of #pitchtuesday, I had the opportunity last week to interview one of our supplier family members:

Thanks for the interview Amanda - it was a pleasure to talk with you.
Are you interested in a fun way to engage with the SPIN audience? Let me know at [email protected] I would enjoy the opportunity to meet with you "live and local" (well technically we'd meet over the computer and I'd be local and you'd be local; but we'd both be local together in spirit)

Hello to these amazeballs SPIN family members!
OH EM GEE - DID YOU KNOW?
Next month is July and here in the USA we'll celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. Which reminds me of a joke.
Q: How many other countries have July 4th?
A: All of them!
Insert: cheesy laughter Aaaahahahahahahahah
That one made you cringe? Here's another.
Q: How come there aren’t any knock-knock jokes about America?
A: Because freedom rings.
Did I get a chuckle yet? Well, I'll keep going.
Q: What's a firecracker's favorite snack treat?
A: A POP-sicle!
Stop groaning...OK last one, I promise.
Q: What's a snowman called on the fourth of July?
A: A puddle!
Fine...I'm done...
As seen on TV (no wait, actually, it's as seen in this Newsletter!)

Q&A with our SPIN Family
Just like summer, we recently had some burning questions come into the Spin Happy Helper email ([email protected]) and I went straight to the source for answers. Here are a few of the Q & A's we got from our members on these very hot topics.
1. Whose been traveling? Where are you going and why?
2. If you've returned to live or hybrid meetings what is YOUR best "Come Back Story"?

Just finished my first large F2F meeting right here in Orlando, and so many positive things came from that. But I'll share one big one here now. This is normally a super large exhibit show in conjunction with lots of education sessions, but many of the regular exhibitors, were not able to attend due to travel bans still in place. The upside of that was that all the smaller exhibitors were thrilled to get the foot traffic and attention. Actual foot traffic was over 6K; virtual attendance added another 4K. Overall this group was not afraid to travel! - Terry M.L. In February I had an in person trade show B2B. In March we had the same B2B show in St Louis. A big factor is that sales for vendors were through the roof. Many vendors sold out of product within minutes…40-90 minutes. Others sold out within hours. This is not a common occurrence. Vendors who write orders for products to be delivered noted record sales. We have another set of shows for the fall and are adding a new show location! - Melissa B. We had an in-person senior recognition celebration for our graduating grad and undergrad students. Despite all of the challenges to plan an event that met all of the required COVID protocols, it was totally worth it to see pure joy, happy tears and giant smiles on everyone's faces. I was filled with a lot of warm-fuzzies the entire day and it provided me with a great reminder of the importance of what we do. - Sue C. |
My group already had a F2F in March and we are back to our regular schedule with our trade show conference in July. We have been open for business in FL for awhile now and everyone is so happy to be back to F2F. - Angie SW Spoke at my first live meeting in mid-May. The energy was unbelievable! Everyone was just so happy to be there. Every speaker got a standing ovation going on stage and coming off. I’ll never forget the vibe. - Shawna S. I’ve traveled some and have quite a bit scheduled for the remainder of the year. Driving to NJ from my home in Maryland to visit a friend. Then to Maine with my husband to celebrate our anniversary, hiking in Colorado with my cousin, to Alaska with my husband, and to Antarctica with cousins. All are vacations. Sure hoping there’s a SPINCON in December!! I’ll be there!! - LA L. On location this past week, and calling for AV to ask for an HDMI cable and an audio cable for sound. It was the BEST MOMENT EVER!! I am a total AV geek – and my gosh did I miss my AV peeps! When the tech came into the room, he connected the audio and said, “Let’s see if this works..it has been over a year since these speakers had any sound coming through them.” And then the sound came on, we all paused and took it in…it sounds like such a simplistic moment, but wow was it a momentous occasion! AV Resurrection! The tech turned and thanked me for helping to put food on his family’s table. I mean…holy wowza. That was a moment. Meetings are back, baby!! Julie B. W. |
